The Brandenburg Concertos and Orchestral Suites
Bach's
Brandenburg Concertos are probably his most familiar work. Each of
the six concertos has its own unique characteristics, while also inparting
a sense of continuity among the works.
The best recommended version of the concertos is by The English Concert
led by Trevor Pinnock. This is an 'original instrument' version, digitally
recorded. The Concertos come in two separate cd's, or in a 3 cd collection
with Orchestral Suites 1-4.
Narnoncourt offers another 'original instruments' version of the 6 Brandenburgs,
along with Orchestral Suites 2 and 3 in a 2 CD set from Teldec.
A nice traditional orchestra version of the Orchestral Suites is also available
at mid-price by Neville Marriner and the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields
on London.
