Classical
Music Dictionary - Borodin
Borodin's Polovtsian
Dances from Prince Igor and In The Steppes Of Central Asia
are joined by Symphonies 2 & 3 in a performance by Anserment
and the Suisse Romande Orchestra on a London Weekend Classics CD. This
is an older recording, but the sound is acceptable, and at a great price.
Similar couplings are also available from Tjeknavorian and the National
Philharmonic Orchestra, but Symphony 3 is replaced by more selections
from Prince Igor. The sound quality is decent, about what you would
expect from a bargain cd.
The Borodin
String Quartet gives its namesake a sterling performance of String
Quartet No. 1 and 2. Third Movement 'Notturno' from The String Quartet
No. 2 In D is a well-known piece, but both works as a whole are beautiful
pieces of music.
Slatkin's St. Louis Symphony Orchestra CD contains the Nocturne
for Strings, along with various other works, all stellar performances.
