Locatelli's Art Of Violin may not be a familiar Basic Repertoire piece, but is a nice work to own. Made up of several concertos, similar to Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, these charming pieces are a study in violin music. If you are a fan of Violin Concertos, definitely check out these works. The recommended CD is another bargain buy from VoxBox. The recording is from the 1950's, and there is a little bit of tape dropout at the beginning of the first track on the first CD of volume 1 [at least in my 4 disc set, may be better in this newer reissue], but after that, the sound is fine. The performances are great, and for under $10 for two CD's, a definite bargain, and a great way to discover an unfamiliar composer. The collection is split over 4 CD's in two separate packages.
