Johann Pachelbel

Pachelbel's Canon in D Major is one of the best known classical themes, most notably included in the movie 'Ordinary People', and can be found on a variety of recordings. The best CD by far is with The Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra conducted by Leonard Slatkin. The sound is superb, the performance is lush, and the rest of the disc contains wonderful companion pieces. including Tchaikovsky's Serenade For Strings. The Palliard Chamber Orchestra have an older recording of the Canon with other works by Pachelbel and Fasch. This is considered the most famous of all the Canon recordings, a reputation that is definitely deserved.
For an MP3 version, the London Baroque has a varied selection of Pachelbel's works along with the Canon.
